Base Physical Therapy, PLLC was established with a mission to provide both highly individualized and highly effective rehabilitation. Uniquely attentive to each client’s needs, Base PT offers physical therapy in a way that both informs the patient and enables them to heal more fully and functionally.
We have two state of the art facilities servicing the New York area. Our original facility in Manhattan and our newest facility located in Brooklyn.
DR. NINA FIGUEROA, PT, DPT
With a DPT Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from George Washington University and extensive experience at premier performance-based NYC physical therapy practices, founder Nina A. Figueroa, PT, DPT, opened Base PT with one goal: to provide highly personalized care backed by the most current research and effective techniques. With a history playing NCAA Division I women’s soccer as well as semi-professional soccer, she has a keen understanding of performance-related injuries and rehabilitation. She has also excelled in both outpatient orthopedics and inpatient care focused on post-operative orthopedics and neurological disabilities. Further, having worked with doctors behind IMPACT, a concussion assessment tool used throughout professional, collegiate and high school level sports, she has participated in the study and assessments of a growing post concussion rehab program. Dr. Figueroa practices evidence-based treatments and stays current on all relevant clinical studies. This ensures she can handle each patient’s unique physical circumstances and goals with the utmost care and respect.
DR. SHAUN PAMINTUAN, PT, DPT
After completing a BS in Exercise Science at the California State University Long Beach, Shaun gained experience as an American College of Sports Medicine certified personal trainer working in Huntington Beach, CA while simultaneously aiding PT’s in an outpatient orthopedic practice based in Pilates and hand therapy in Newport Beach, CA. He then went on to complete his Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Rutgers University. During his study, he treated a large variety of patients during his clinical experiences in acute care, short-term rehab, and outpatient orthopedic and neurologic clinics. Shaun went on to begin his career at a leading sport and orthopedic practice in Manhattan, where he gained valuable knowledge and experience working with an array of diagnoses. He continually keeps up with current research in sports and orthopedics to ensure that he provides optimal care to achieve the best outcomes with all his patients.
Dr. Laura Miranda MPT, DPT, CSCS
Dr. Laura Miranda received a Masters degree in Physical Therapy from Hunter College of the City University of New York. She went on to complete her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Arcadia University. Since the beginning of her career, she has always specialized in sports orthopedic rehabilitation as it is close to her heart as a competitive athlete, cyclist, and weightlifter.
Dr. Miranda has been a presenter and speaker at multiple physical therapy and fitness conferences. She is the author and featured Physical Therapy and wellness expert in multiple national media publications such as Shape, Women's Health, Well + Good, Self, and Girls Gone Strong. Through her NYC based fitness company, Dr. Miranda has lead wellness programs and corporate team-building sessions with companies such as Twitter, Asics, Whole Foods, Lululemon, The New York Stock Exchange, BlackRock, and many others.
ALEX MORALES, MPT
Alex Morales, MPT received his masters of physical therapy degree from Hunter College of the City University of New York in 2007. He began his career at The Burke Rehabilitation Hospital where he acquired extensive clinical experience in treating a wide variety of post operative orthopedic diagnoses, and neurological disorders. From Burke, Alex worked in Pediatrics where he gained clinical experience in treating children with spectrum disorders, sensory deficits, and developmental delay. Prior to joining Base PT, Alex assisted in the opening of an outpatient physical therapy clinic that provided much needed services to an underserved community. With a passion for treating sports injuries, Alex focuses on manual techniques, neuromuscular reeducation, and sport specific training with a goal to restore his patients to their prior level of function as well as educate them on how to prevent the reoccurrence of injury.
Paloma Torres, Exercise Physiologist
Paloma completed her studies at the University of Sydney, Australia with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise, Sport Science & Nutrition). Since then she has worked in a range of work environments and with many populations, workplace health and safety, health promotion, workplace rehabilitation, chronic cardiovascular disease rehabilitation and aged care to name a few. It wasn’t until moving to NYC 4 years ago where she finally got to work in her desired field - sports and musculoskeletal rehabilitation, and she hasn’t looked back since. Her passions include helping others, as well as feeding her friends and family with her cooking.
Elizabeth Herron, MS, LAT, ATC
Elizabeth (Liz) first found her love for sports medicine from her own injury treatment throughout high school participating in varsity soccer, travel soccer, and rowing. She completed her undergraduate degree in Athletic Training, and her Master's in Human Physiology at Boston University. Her undergraduate clinical rotations included Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston University, and Emerson College, treating a wide variety of sport injuries and DI-DIII level athletes. She began her professional clinical career covering club sports at Boston College, then went on to become the high school Athletic Trainer at Winthrop High School treating 400 student-athletes in over 20 different sports. In 2019 she moved down to NYC to be closer to family and obtained experience working in an orthopaedic surgeon's practice and is now using her wide skill set to educate and treat patients with evidence-based, patient-centered care. Her special orthopaedic interests include the hip, knee, and foot/ankle.
In her free time, Liz enjoys reading, hiking, rock climbing, and is hoping to get started in mountaineering and alpine climbing in the near future."
